I do not use pidgin, bt hoping that it may have a command line interface for notifying it of music tracks, I suggest you use the XMMS song change plugin, I used it do display the current song name on my website. This plugin executes a user specified command when ever the currently playing song changes state. You should be able to locate it by searching in google or some other search engine.
