GNU/Linux and FreeBSD can co-exist in a single HDD on a single machine.
I have GNU/Linux on my first HDD and FreeBSD on my second HDD. U can
install any OS first, there is nothing to be followed like in Win 9X.
Read the Linux-FreeBSD mini HOWTO. FreeBSD has got its own boot
manager, which is equally good. I feel LILO is any day better !!
