Hi All...
I had a similar problem...
I was not able to get into the cmos setup of an old machine....
but accidentally I found out the way...

once I happened to switch on the machine without connecting the hdd...
the machine halted with a message  like...

........HDD failure press F2 to enter setup............

I pressed F2 and voila!! I was in.
But otherwise even if I press F2 it doesn't get into it.
