Hi,
        MC uses externel applications for handling the various compression
formats like zip,bzip,rar,gzip etc. So, installing  the externel
application will do the trick. 

        For example, if u want mc to handle bzip archives (ends with .bz2) ,
the bzip2 package must be installed. Similarly, installing the zip/unzip
package for handling .zip archives.
