I have the same card and monitor (LG studioworks 520 si).
Try using "XF86Setup" This will give you more options than Xconfigurator.
Choose the 975 chipset in the card settings, and give the appropriate VRAM>
If your screen goes blank on startx just toggle between different
resolutions using<Ctrl><Alt><Numpad+>.
To get 32 bit color depth type "startx-- -bpp 32"
