hello linuxers!

Recently there had been a lot of postings regarding trident 9750 video card.
i have trident 9750 (rev 243) & my monitor is samtron 4bni and i run
caldera's open linux v2.3 without any problems.

during setup (caldera uses a gui interface called the lizard for setup as all
of you might allready know) my card was properly detected and the max
programable clock was probed to be 230 mhz after that every thing went on
smoothly and i now run X at a res of 1152x864.

 (if you still use
windows 9x & have Trident 9750 then you can find the latest driver at
www.tridentmicro.com).

i used to run redhat 6.0 earlier under RH 6.0 i think the monitor specified
should be custom and under custom the option
non-interlaced SVGA,1024X768@60HZ 800X600 @72 HZ
(most monitors avilable are non interlaced) should be selected.use XF86Setup
to fine tune the configuration.i used to run X at 800x600 @24bpp under
Rh6.0.

Also manually editing and adding the options
"noaccel" & "no_program_clocks" in xf86config might help.

(note messing with your cards clock frequencies may be injurious to your
card's health.i am not responsible in any way for any kind of damage caused
to your system.use the following at your own risk)

or you can use fixed clocks mine works at a fixed clock of 25.175 for a res of
1152X864.if you want to use fixed clocks then consult the file
/usr/X11r6/lib/X11/doc/README.trident.for a range of fixed clock frequecies
for trident video card.after editing xf86config the entries should be
like the one below

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Primary Card"
    VendorName "Unknown"
    BoardName "None"
    VideoRam 4096
    Option "noaccel"
    Option "no_program_clocks"
    Clocks 25 28 45 36 57 65 50 40

the vendor, boardname & identifier fields can be safely ignored.

hope this help's the people trying to configure a trident video card .

have lot's of patience while trying out different video modes because you will
need it :-)
