Hi all:

The situation: RHL 6.1 based server.... created user (having 9-character username)
using Linuxconf. The user created
belongs to a group called "main" and another supplimental group called "dataops".

The Problem: user gets created without trouble... allows logging in.... but while
trying to start X for the first time,
the gnome splash screen with RHAD comes up and then it sits still with the "x" cursor
against the griddy backgdrop.
Killing X with Ctrl+Alt+Bksp brings me back to the prompt.... with a 'ls' I end up
staring at a core file in the user's
home directory as the extra baggage.

However, creation of other users is not a problem & with these there are no problem
with running X.

I have been giving support over phone and I have to solve this by tomorrow morning by
going over to the client's place
(hence the urgency ;) .... how do I go abt understanding what is happening here ?? (I
will be of course sending the
error output to a log file... so other than that??)... anyone to clue me in as to what
could be going wrong here???

Need help fast!!

TIA,
--Indra.
