Ok, I'm getting a little bit annoyed about this repeating theme in this
thread:

No one on this list is talking about kernel development!

The problem is not with the list - it's the people. If you don't have
kernel developers in India, you can't create them by starting a new list.
It's as simple as that.

If you'd like to see Indian names, try grep'ing for my name in
patch-2.3.43. I've also seen a couple of other Indian names early
on.

The real issue is, Indian engineers are driven by money. Not many people
have the time, energy and resources to contribute. The few who do, go for
the big money and are not exactly Richard Stallman fans. And yes, Indian
schools don't offer a 7 year, almost zero cost Masters programs like
the ones in Finland. You can see a lot of Indian engineers at Sun, SCO,
HP, SGI and IBM doing kernel development - so it's certainly not a lack
of talent.

Speaking for myself, I did the above work as a part of Intel on the
IA-64 project as a paid job. So I can't exactly claim that I did my
work for free - in the altruistic sense, but "free" in the GNU sense
(it's ok to take money, as long as the source is free).
