Naturally. So what you do in this case is that use XF86Setup once again.
Let it take values from existing config file.
Incrementally give options...
640x480 at the depth you are getting it at. Then
640x480 AND 800x600 and see if it works. Then
640x480 AND 800x600 AND 1024x768 and see if it works...
