This is for information of all.
The XF86_SVGA server 3.3.6 from xfree86.org supports S3 Trio 3D/2x [8mb
ram] card well. I have a chipset 86C368 and currently my card is being
run as 86C362 [Trio 3D].
The procedure is simple, standard and the card DOES NOT HANG XF86Setup.
The key is again the same, get the latest Xserver. The performance of
the card+server with
full screen display of movies [toggle display window of mtvp to max
size. Keep the desktop size 1024x768 and cycle through to achieve
640x480 where the window more than nearly covers the entire screen and
you can position it in such a way as to get feull display.
Procedure : Fire up XF86Setup.
Choose your keyboard/mouse/monitor [if you need to]
Set up desired resolutions 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480 and others if you
like.
Select colourdepth as 24bpp. [Documentation says that the card can not
supoport 32 bpp. In windows with drivers, it is impossible
to
achieve. So I uess it is really impossible to
achieve 32 bpp.
Will look into it and let you know]
Go to the graphic card menu and choose Trio 3D.
Enable option 'sw_cursor'.
Indicate video ram = 8 MB [or what you have]
Test.
It works...
Now I have to find the ways of
- whether 32 bpp is supported.
- whether the snow that is there, very slighly, when the windows rush
around the desktop when a program is started or there is some
unwindows animation on the screen, is a hardware fault? [Will compare
with performance of card in windows]
- finding the resolutions supported on the card.
- configuring card for best output on Samtron 55e monitor. Currently
running at
70 Hz vert-refresh rate. It can take 75 and I wish to push to that
limit.
