A stream socket provides for the bidirectional, reliable, sequenced, and
unduplicated flow of data without record
boundaries. A pair of connected stream sockets provides an interface nearly
identical to that of pipes.
> 2>Datagram sockets
A datagram socket(UDP) supports bidirectional flow of data that is not
promised to be sequenced, reliable, or
unduplicated.
An important characteristic of a datagram socket is that record boundaries in
the data are preserved.
(sequence packets reserve boundaries and stream sockets do not )
> 3>RAW sockets
A raw socket provides access to the underlying communication protocols that
support socket abstractions. These
sockets are normally datagram oriented, although their exact characteristics
are dependent on the interface provided
by the protocol. Raw sockets are not intended for the general user; they
have been provided mainly for users
interested in developing new communication protocols, or gaining access to
some of the more esoteric facilities of
an existing protocol.
> 1> TCP sockets
A tcp socket is a reliable, connection oriented service (just like udp
socket).
unix sockets usually refers to berkley sockets or a domain specific sockets
AF_UNIX.
> 4>Domain sockets
domain sockets according to me are specific to domain like unix domain
sockets or inet domain sockets i.e
address family.
> 5>Datalink sockets
datalink scokets are AF_LINK socket option takers not supported in many
things.
