minicom is a nice terminal emulation program, it has a look and feel alot
like the old DOS communication program Telix.  If minicom isn't included in
your distribution, you can grab it off http://freshmeat.net/ - just search
for minicom.

On a side note, it is the actual kernel that is named Linux.  Then a
packager puts a version of Linux, in your case 2.2.16, together with a
number of applications to form a distribution, in your case version 7.0,
with a name of their own, eg. Slackware Linux 7.0 or RedHat Linux 7.0.
