Hello, everybody!

I am trying to get irda running on a Dell Inspiron 8100. It works fine
under M$ Windows, but I still have trouble to make it work with SuSE
Linux 7.2.

My modules.conf file contains:

8<--------------------------------
...
# IrDA over a normal serial port, or a serial port compatible IrDA port
alias tty-ldisc-11 irtty
# IrCOMM (for printing, PPP, Minicom etc)
alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty # if you want IrCOMM support
# IRLAN
alias irlan0 irlan
# To be able to attach some serial dongles
# These values are hard-coded in irattach (not instance order)
alias irda-dongle-0 tekram # Tekram IrMate IR-210B
alias irda-dongle-1 esi # ESI JetEye
alias irda-dongle-2 actisys # Actisys IR-220L
alias irda-dongle-3 actisys # Actisys IR-220L+
alias irda-dongle-4 girbil # Greenwich GIrBIL
alias irda-dongle-5 litelink # Parallax LiteLink
alias irda-dongle-6 airport # Adaptec Airport 1000 and 2000
# To use the FIR driver. This applies only to the specific device!!!
#options nsc-ircc dongle_id=0x09 # NSC driver on a IBM Thinkpad laptop
#options nsc-ircc dongle_id=0x08 # HP Omnibook 6000
#alias irda0 nsc-ircc
#alias irda0 smc-ircc
# IrNET module...
alias char-major-10-187 irnet # Official allocation of IrNET
#irda ends
...

I try to start irda up with the following commands:

 > insmod irda
Using /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/kernel/net/irda/irda.o
Warning: /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/kernel/net/irda/irda.o symbol for
parameter irda_debug not found

I ignore the warnig here, but I don't know how I can get rid of it.

 > insmod irtty
Using /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/kernel/drivers/net/irda/irtty.o

 > insmod ircomm
Using /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/kernel/net/irda/ircomm/ircomm.o

 > insmod ircomm-tty
Using /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/kernel/net/irda/ircomm/ircomm-tty.o

14 packets received by filter

All in all this just looks fine, dispite of the fact that I tried to
connect with a Nokia 9110 and a PalmIII. The devices are both okay,
because they accidentally connected once, when I was trying them at the
same time. But still, my Dell Inspiron 8100 is just getting _no_
packets. In BIOS I configured it to use COM3, I tried both Fast IR and
Slow IR. As said above, it works with Windoze, but not in Linux !?

I was trying hard to make it work, but now I am totally out of ideas.
Maybe there is someone who experienced the same situation and has a clue
for me now...

Thank you all in advance,
Georg Gogo. BERNHARD
