Hi Guys,

i've got a small but annoying problem:
i try to get IrDA on my notebook working, but i can't find the clue.

My system is a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E-6540, running Mandrake 8.1.

i tried the following:
modprobe irda
modprobe irport
irattach smc-ircc /dev/ttyS3 -s 1

works without complaints, sometimes there are some error log due to loading
the smc-ircc module, but it always succeeds.

ok, now this whole thing should work, shouldn't it? but as i start "irdadump"
nothing happens, i bring my S35 with IR "on" to the front of the IR "eye",
nothing happens...

there must be a clue somewhere, but i can't find it.

ok, some configuration details and logs:

That's from "dmesg":

Serial driver version 5.05c (2001-07-08) with HUB-6 MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT
SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI ISAPNP enabled

ttyS03 at 0x02e8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

SMC IrDA Controller found
  IrCC version 2.0, firport 0x118, sirport 0x2e8 dma=3, irq=3

So this is from /var/log/messages:

Says "insmod smc-ircc" failed, but "lsmod" shows the module...

Thanks for your help,

Timo

BTW: just running "irattach /dev/ttyS3 -s 1" after doing "modprobe irda" and
"modprobe irtty" doesn't work either.
