I don't know if it's the same problem but... The company I work for is building PC104's based on ZFx86. This chip has a 87338 also but the way it's connected is unusual so I had to hack into the driver to program it correctly and make it work. Maybe you should do the same, changing the identifier. Another tip: the driver is used only you want to work on FIR mode. AFAICS, you did not configured the BIOS to work this way or your notebook can do it. I suggest you take a look at this point.
