It was said here a few days ago that irport was kinda broken and it
was safer to stick to irtty for now, and I decided to switch back to
using irtty (2.4.19pre4-ac2). Suddenly all my problems got back, the
first one being getting my syslogs full of:

NETDEV WATCHDOG: irda0: transmit timed out
irda0: transmit timed out
NETDEV WATCHDOG: irda0: transmit timed out
irda0: transmit timed out

(which I dont get with irport)

and second, and the most annoying which seems to indicate something
really broken, if I have a scp session going over the IrDA link to my
phone (with ppp to my machine on the net, usually to get todays catch
of assorted ac-patches, 2.5 series dj-releases, etc) there i absolute
NO way that I can run fetchmail (retrieve mail via POP3), as it will
return within a few seconds with a socket error (-2). This behaviour
was not there when using irport. Same goes for running HTTP/DNS when
runnin scp on the link, I can not look up any names to get IP numbers
and browse a page (slashdot, lwn.net, etc) as long as the scp runs.

What can I do to provide better documentation of this and what would
you guys in here like to see to get a better understanding of what
goes on?

ttfn,
A
