Hi,

after few days spent trying to understand what was wrong with my Toshiba
Satellite 1800-514 and IrDA with Linux kernel (2.4.17), I made a small
utility that makes possible to use IrDA with laptop. This machine is
provided with an ALi 1533 PCI-ISA bridge and a LPC47N227 SuperIO chip
that are simply not initialized by the BIOS so Linux kernel is not even
able to detect the second serial port.
The tool can be expanded to support other chips in similar
configurations. Moreover options make it simple to even configure just
one of the two subsystems and to specify other compatible PCI-ISA
bridges.
Toshiba Satellite 1800-514 owners can simply execute the command to get
the second UART at 0x2e8 and the FIR smc subsystem registers at 0x2f8.
I haven't tried speeds over 115200 so far.

Bye,
