I also installed into PowerBook G3 "Wallstreet".
The kernel is 2.2.13 and I patched the latest.

For kernel, I installed all except for FIR drivers as module.
For IrDA tools, I compiled irmanager, irattach and irdadump of rev 0.95.

I did the follows as configurations:

(1) in /etc/irda/drivers, enabled "irattach /dev/ttyS1" line.
(2) in /etc/conf.modules, added the lines:
      alias tty-ldisc-11 irtty
      alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty
(3) add the IrCOMM device (executed "mknod /dev/ircomm 161 0")

Rebooting and executing "irmanager -d 1", and "irattach /dev/ttyS1"
seemded to succeed.

Next, I tried "irdadump" with an IrTran-P digital camera.
Attemped to send an image from camera, but no data was dumped.

Then I also tried IrCOMM, connecting between Windows 98 PC via terminal
emulator.
  - on Linux PPC, ran "cu -l /dev/ircomm"
(IrCOMM was loaded and "cu" said no error.)
  - on Windows 98 laptop PC, ran terminal software "Tera Term Pro".
As result, I failed this.

I dont' know what I did something wrong.

I have IrDA ready items:
 - PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet)
 - laptop PC (has NS 87338 FIR chip, Windows 98 runs)
 - IrCOMM/IrTran-P printer, Canon BJ-M70 (max 4Mbps)
 - IrTran-P camera, Casio QV-7000SX (max 1Mbps)

I would to like to join tests...
