Hello there, I have bought a Armada 1700 notebook, the actual model is 6233/T/4000/D/M/1, which means it is the simpler model (a PII 233). There are FIR windows drivers for it on Compaqs web site, so I downloaded it to get more info on the FIR chip it uses. Altough the page says it uses a SMC chip, and the Win drivers have a smc_inst.inf file, which contains registry keys to set a smc chip at ; - Fast IR base = 0x100 ; - DMA channel = 0 ; - Serial IR base = 0x3E8 (COM3) I had no success using the ir_utils package to find the smc chip. biosdump tells me only about a generic ir port at com3, and even if i put FirBase = 0x100 in the ir_utils.ini file, I get no success (I've tried using these utilities in the "safe mode command prompt only" option of windows. By the other side, I 've successfully used the port in SIR mode, to establish a ppp connection to a Palm III and to sync it, using pppd and pilot-xfer. Windows started showing ratees up to 4Mbps in the IrDA control panel, but I have no devices to test it with, so I cannot be sure wheter it really is supporting FIR mode in windows. You may wonder why I wan to set the FIR support if I have no devices to use it. First, to test it. Second, because whenever I find someone using sa device in FIR mode, I can try to use it. :) If you have *any* suggestion, let me know. I've checked the list archives, but I do not get the success people get with findchip in the Armada 1700. Perhaps the FIR chip is broken. Is it possible? Thanks in advance, and "feliz natal" to everyone. -- Roberto Jung Drebes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Porto Alegre, RS - Brasil http://www.inf.ufrgs.br/~drebes/ _______________________________________________ Linux-IrDA mailing list - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www4.pasta.cs.UiT.No/mailman/listinfo/linux-irda
