This was the problem. pilot-xfer is now working beautifully with my
Palm Vx. Thanks! Though I still don't know whether I have an 87338 or
a 97338. :) Should I trust findchip or the driver?

A first cut at a .wml for the 600X is attached. Please mangle as you
see fit.

The BIOS allows to disable and change the configuration of the UART
(io base, irq and dma), so you may not find it where you expect.

Configuration is just like for other Thinkpads. See Manoj Kasichainula's <a

details.
