In case anyone is interested I have managed to do this. My first attempt
is at http://www.pandh.demon.co.uk/files/ircontrol.tar.gz
It will only work on machines with a PC87306 multi-IO controller so if
you don't have one of these don't even think about downloading the software.
If you want to try it please let me know how you get on and read the README
*very* carefully.
