Thanks to Dag and all the others who worked on the Linux-IRDA project,
I can now sync from my PalmVx to my Debian/Sony505 notebook.

I am running kernel 2.2.14, with the irda1 patch installed.
I only chose IRCOMM and IRTTY in the kernel configuration.
I went into BIOS and changed the IR port from "FIR" to "SIR",
which the kernel then recognized and put it on
/dev/ttyS2 irq=10 io=0x3e8
At boot-time, I run from a script:

irattach /dev/ttyS2
/sbin/ifconfig irda0 up

and just leave that up all the time.
Is this okay? Does leaving the port attached and the interface
up have a drain on the batteries? I set my Palm to "Beam Receive"
to test it and there does not appear to be any discovery happening
unless I do a "pilot-xfer ...".

If somebody has a better way of doing this, I would love to hear it.
For hot-syncing initiated from the laptop, I don't see any reason to
use the irmanager.

Cheers,
-Mitch
