I've got exactly the same problem as Magnos Sj�gren, but this time with
a
2.2.14 kernel patched with patch-2.2.14-irda1.

My phone worked fine with the unpatched kernel and the irnine device (60
64) except that the whole system sometimes locked hard, particularly
when I was playing sound and using irDA simultaneously.
With the new device (ircomm0 161 0) I can't connect to the phone.
Still irdaping works fine and all the proper modules get loaded.
I also note that while the module ircomm is loaded, I can't see the
SH888 entry in /proc/net/irda/discovery, but that's maybe normal
behaviour (?)
As soon as the module ircomm is removed (either by rmmod or by kerneld)
the entry returns.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Btw I'm using a Dual PII BX computer and the SH888 phone connected to
ttyS2 via cable. ttyS0 and ttyS2 shares the same irq (4).
