I have this very nice laptop...

IRDA is ok, working good in 98, but... Putting it working in Linux is a
nightmare.

Findchip say the chipset is SMC, so I load the SMC support in the modular
kernel.

After I boot I try that: modprobe smc-ircc

I ALWAYS have Device Or Resource Busy reply...

The IR port is correctly configured for FIR and Com2.

I not know to handle this anymore... Everything is working well on my laptop
(APM, PCMCIA, ISDN), but this IRDA stuff is terrible... Whats wrong in your
opinion???

The kernel is 2.2.14 well patched.

I was wondering that, If I only want SIR, I NOT need the Smc driver, but the
simple serial driver...

Is this correct?

Best regards to all

Massimo

PS: I read every HOWTO. Maybe someone can write for me a step by step guide
to make this Dell work???
