I finally got a contact number here (though I think I spoke to someone
in the USA). The impression I was left with was this a problem that they
had heard about before, and could only suggest reducing the baud rate to
9600 and stepping it up until it just did not work. In my hands specifying
9600 made absolutely no difference to the problem.
By the way, the technical person I spoke to (in their infra-red data group)
was amazed to here that someone actually had succeeded in making the
phone work at all with Linux. (I wonder why?)
