The problem is that laptops doesn't support probing for transceivers, so you must
set this manually:

options nsc-ircc dongle_id=0x09
alias irda0 nsc-ircc

... it will still work for SIR mode, but for FIR mode you'll need these changes
to your /etc/conf.modules

Have you tried it at FIR speeds?
