Hi all,

I was fighting with irda for a while. After 6 days i have no more idea.
I build an 2.2.13 kernel with the necessary options. I did update-modules and
depmod. Then i found that the module was actually named ircomm_tty.o and not
ircomm-tty.o as described in the HOWTO and set up in /etc/modules.conf. So i set
an link from one to the other. But now when I type:
> irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s
it brings following messages into /var/log/syslog:
...
May 24 14:33:20 matthschulzg irattach: device=/dev/ttyS1
May 24 14:33:20 matthschulzg irattach: SIR device
May 24 14:33:20 matthschulzg kernel: IrDA (tm) Protocols for Linux-2.2 (Dag Brattli)
May 24 14:33:20 matthschulzg kernel: IrDA: Registered device irda0
May 24 14:33:21 matthschulzg irattach: executing: 'echo 1 >
/proc/sys/net/irda/discovery'
May 24 14:33:21 matthschulzg irattach: SIR device (2)
May 24 14:33:21 matthschulzg irattach: executing: 'echo matthschulzg >
/proc/sys/net/irda/devname'
...

and
> ls /dev/ir* -pl
brings

crw-rw-rw- 1 root dialout 161, 0 May 19 10:08 /dev/ircomm0
crw-rw-rw- 1 root dialout 161, 1 May 19 10:08 /dev/ircomm1

> findchip says:
reg=0x010
NSC,PC87338,11.2,0x398,0x2f8,0x2f8,0,3,1,0,1

The irda is attached at ttyS1. Startupmsg is:
...
May 24 14:05:26 matthschulzg kernel: ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
...

There is no message like ...conection established... and no reaction to my
PalmIIIx.

Could someone point me to what i'm missing please?

Matth
