Guys,
Apologies if this is well trodden ground; I'm an IrDA newbie.
Basically, I'm doing some research for my PhD which involves PDA-type
devices sending data to/from each other/PCs. My sponsor has given
me a rough budget of around 300ukp (~500usd) to get some hardware kit
which will allow me to do this research.
My immediate reaction (in the absence of bluetooth stuff) is to buy a
couple of cheap Palm Pilots with IrDA ports and get them to talk to
either (a) a laptop with IrDA on it, or (b) assuming there is one
which is compatible with linux, an IrDA add-on for my PC (is there?).
That said, HP Jornada 430 PDAs are going for a song at the moment
(~150ukp), so I could get a couple of those (except that I'm then
forced to try to write my PDA app using M$ tools).
SO! I would be eternally grateful for advice, particularly on
appropriate devices to buy and the feasibility of the whole notion of
getting the PC and PDAs to talk to each other (i.e. are there good
libraries for such things to prevent me having to worry too much about
the IrDA protocols).
Many thanks in advance for any replies, (please cc: any replies to me).
