hi!

i am planning to buy an external irda port to my rather old notebook
computer, which has no irda port on the motherboard. here in Hungary i
could find (until now) only a 100% ACTiSYS IR-200L compatible irda-rs232
device (dongle?). i would like to use it to communicate between my
motorola 7389 and the notebook, running debian linux.

before buying, i thought i'd better ask some experienced users, whether
the device will work for me or not. please write me, what chance i have to
get them to work together - so that i can do for example a ppp call to my
isp from the notebook through the mobile phone.
i found linux drivers for an actisys irda port which connects to a
motherboard's infra connection - but i'm not sure if the serial-connected
one will work with linux too.

thanks in advance,
        Balazs Domotor

ps. i found something interesting in the archives of this list, about
accessing the motorola phone's phonebook through the irda interface. i'd
be glad to get some more infos about this too
