Perhaps,

bool match;

match = __acpi_match_device(..);
if (!match)
 return NULL;

...

Actually (dbesides redundant 'else') there is no difference in which
order you test these.
Thus, perhaps

if (of_id)
 return ...of_id...;

return ...acpi_id...;
