perhaps simpler using a ?:

        uAckTime = bb_get_frame_time(pDevice->byPreambleType, byPktType, 14,
                                     byPktType == PK_TYPE_11B
                                     ? pDevice->byTopCCKBasicRate
                                     : pDevice->byTopOFDMBasicRate);

the casts aren't necessary either as both by... fields are u8
