This is a Long Term Support(LTS) version so I recommend everybody to change to this version for their desktop version.
We encountered problems with Vista and Acer Laptops : the keyboard is not recognized anymore. However in Xubuntu is does work perfectly. We have also a few reports that Windows manipulates your Linux partitions. So people who are using Windows AND Linux are warned : take regurly back-ups or install only 1 Operating system on the same computer. I also suspect that these people have socalled 'rootkits installed' via Windows. Wheather this is a 'feature of Windows' or not Windows (all versions) are extreem vunerable to suchs things and even the most advanced anti-virus/firewall under Windows is not capable to stop it. The new service packs of Windows are extremly deadly for bussiness applications. So if you need to install Windows with Linux use VMware or simular virtualisation for Windows. Do not do the other way. Do not try to use the desktop version for server purposes. Use the decidated server version if you want to use Xubuntu. Xubuntu installs a lot of unnecessary drivers: uninstall them manually. Keep the fb and your decidated driver for your video card and the vesa drivers. Once updated you find a lot of (updates) files extra installed : they can be removed so that place comes free. Improved printing via CUPS. Xen does not yet install error free on every pc. A lot of drivers are included for playing video (codecs). Sun Java is a recommended install. The Gigabyte motherboards install flawlessy all Linux versions. And ATI video cards give a better colour reproduction than Nvidia. There is a special AMD optimised memory DDR2-800 from MDT @Germany. Use the 780 chipset (better than 790) from AMD. Black edition of AMD not recommended use the cheaper fixed versions. HD3870 as extra video card for 3D recommended. -- mvg, Patrick Op de Beeck The Antwerp Linux User Group Linuxuser #1126 _______________________________________________ Cancelar suscripción https://listas.softwarelibre.cu/mailman/listinfo/linux-l Buscar en el archivo http://listas.softwarelibre.cu/buscar/linux-l
