I don't know if my machine, a Toshiba 510CDT, is the same as yours in
this department.  But it was pretty easy.  I created a symbolic link
/dev/modem that points to to /dev/ttyS1, and I think I also had to
enable the modem in the BIOS setup.  (The built-in serial port is
ttyS0).
