On my Olivetti ECHOS P90M I can select in the BIOS if I want a "Suspend
to RAM" or a "Suspend to disk". I have selected "Suspend to disk". I
have created a hidden partition on the disk for use by "Suspend to disk"
using a utility that came with the laptop. I compiled a kernel with the
APM options enabled. When I press Fn-F2 it "goes to sleep" (writes the
current state on disk, halts the system and shuts itself off, this last
one being a "cool" feature of APM kernel code, as I read in tfm ;-)). I
have never used any software sleeping pills (i.e. APM suspend, halt, or
whatever commands to send my laptop to Morpheus arms ;-)), the function
keys suffice. I only have to (soft) eject any PCMCIA cards that happen
to be inserted before I do this, otherwise I will have to stop and
restart the pcmcia script when I resume. Works fine. That's all :-)
