The Toshiba Tecra 8000 works with RedHat 6.0, including the bootable
CD-ROM.
I have the following issues:
1. The gnome menubar is not properly repainted when expanding (using ->
or <-).
2. The neomagic X driver won't proplerly run in 24 bpp mode (icons on
WP 8 and Netscape are messed up, but a GIF displayed in full
color). Is
there a newer driver or a bios update (I have only had the T8000 for
a month).
3. PCMCIA is flakey. I am having some problems with cardbus, etc.
My 3CCFE575BT 10/100 3Com card is not working. I have had flakey
problems
with other 16-bit 3Com 10/100 cards. I can't use my modem and my
old modem/10-T card (3Com) at the same time (IRQ conflict).
4. Sound works with the kernel sound driver (2.2.9) and OSS. I use
0x530, I5,
DMA 1,0, 0x330, I9, 0x388. I can only get the real-player G2
working with
the OSS sound driver and with esd not running. I can't get G2 to
work
with either the kernel sound driver, or by using esddsp realplay.
5. I have had a few X server crashes as well (reported to RedHat).
6. Every time I try to record audio, the resultant audio sounds really
bad.
I have tried esdrec (with esd running), and vrec. IBM ViaVoice
won't
initialize as the mic is "noisy". I get the same results with
either
sound driver and either the internal mic or an external mic.
Questions:
1. Does anyone know how to get the video output to work under Linux?
2. Anyone tested the IRDA stuff yet?
3. Any ideas on my mic problem?
Cheers,
