As far as I can remember, I read in the battery-HOWTO that this is
the fault of XFree86. The problem was expected to be solved by
the release 3.3.3.x, but in fact this didn't happen: The problem
still remains unsolved.
Workaround: Switch from X11 to a text console (CTRL+ALT+F1) and
restart X11, e. g. by killall -HUP X.
But of course this is not what you really want to do, if you
use suspend and resume. I'm afraid we will have to wait for
future versions of xfree that will hopefully cope with
the apm problem.
