Check your manual & find out exactly which chipsets the Gateway laptop uses for
graphics and sound. Find out if the hard drive and CD-ROM are ATAPI/IDE and if
the serial port has to share the mouse port or not. Do you have a rubber blob
in the middle of your keyboard, or a tablet near the rim of the case?
I would say, back up all your data & install Linux. That's the best way to find
out if your laptop can cope.
