I've got an HP Omnibook 4100 and I'm running SuSE 6.2 on it. I'm very
happy as everything is working fine, except for hot swapping between the
floppy-drive and the cdrom. Only the device, that was inserted during a
coldstart (strange, but rebooting Linux alone is not enough!) will work
under Linux, the other drive doesn't.

Since you have to cold-boot to fix the problem, it sounds like the
BIOS needs to be adjusted to activate one device and deactivate the
other. There is probably some special BIOS entry point to get it to
adjust its own state, and possibly to set up part of the hardware
correctly.
