Heres my original message that seemed to get lost. As I mentioned in the
second posting I can get ascd to play audio Cd's but if I do a cat
audio.file > /dev/audio I get the timed out error and no sound. xmm also
doesnt work it seems to hang. Any ideas?
thanks Ewan

Hello, well now to my next problem the sound config. I have the Yamaha
OPL3-SA3 loading as a module on my modified kernel RH6.0. /var/log/messages
show its Found OK although it doesnt say Initiated etc since its a module.
Here is my /dev/sndstat file

OSS/Free:3.8s2++-971130
Load type: Driver loaded as a module
Kernel: Linux Satellite 2.2.5-15 #2 Thu Nov 4 12:32:25 PET 1999 i586
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:

Card config:

Audio devices:
0: MS Sound System (CS4231) (DUPLEX)

Synth devices:
0: Yamaha OPL3

Midi devices:
0: MPU-401 0.0 Midi interface #1

Timers:
0: System clock
1: MS Sound System (CS4231)

Mixers:
0: OPL3-SA3 and AD1848 (through MSS)
1: MS Sound System (CS4231)

and here is the etc/conf.modules file

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
keep
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
keep
alias sound opl3sa2
pre-install sound insmod sound dmabuf=1
alias midi opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options opl3sa2 mss_io=0x530 irq=5 dma=0 dma2=1 mpu_io=0x330 io=0x370

All the io's etc are exactly the same as in win95 config. If I do a cat
/file >/dev/audio nothing happens If I start up xmms I can see the options
for the sound drivers under the libOSS driver but when I load a sound file
it locks.
Looking again at my /var/log/messages theres a Sound DMA (output) timed
out - IRQ/DRQ config error which OK I know is the io IRQ stuff but how can
it be different to the config under windows.
Anybody know what to do!! please
