Toshiba_7020 hangs when loading pcmcia-cs-3.1.9 with linux-2.2.14

Has anybody encountered the same problem?

- Toshiba Port�g� 7020 with a very up-to-date Debian potato install,
- kernel 2.2.14
- latest pcmcia-cs package (3.1.[89])

--> total lockup when loading "/etc/init.d/pcmcia start" on boot

However with a stock 2.2.13 kernel and the same pcmcia is works fine.

Puzzled...
