hi,
i got the above comment about my last msg.  (source is unnamed since
                  he did not copy to list or newsgroup)

  i tend to disagree with this explanation.  the connectors are near
  to the deposits, but if this is a sealant, it does not seem to be
  for the connectors, because of the layout of things.

  i will try to explain better:

  if the machine is placed upside down, so that the harddisk, etc, can
  be taken out, then, the connectors are seen after the components
  are taken out.  in the machine in this position, what you see in the 
  several bays where the components where, is a
  silver-colored metal plating which may serve as an electronic shield, as
  well as a structural support for the innards of the machine.

  it is on this plating, and near the connectors (which are laid parallel
  to the surface of the plating, and stand off the surface of the plating)
  that i see the greenish-whitish deposits.<<

  it is as if some liquid that was seeping from THE OTHER SIDE of
  the plating (when the machine was in its normal upright position) had
  come out thru the openings in the plating which are near the connectors,
  and had dried out.
