NeoMagic256 chipset for sound - Dell CPi R

Anyone got the sound to work on this thing?  I just compiled kernel
2.2.14 which does include sound support for this chipset.  First I tried
using sndconfig, which properly identified the chipset, but after that
it states it could have problems locking up on the Inspiron 3500.  Then,
after that, I tried using insmod, but that coughed up a few errors there
concerning unresolved synbols.

Any ideas?
