Hi ,
I do have the same problem related to the APM under Linux on a Sunrex
850AGP laptop. I have never been able to benefit from the APM features.
I use RedHat 6.1 distro and tried kernel 2.2.12 and 2.2.14 (and even tried
the last APM patch issued few weeks ago for 2.2.14).
The problem is always the same: if I compile with APM enable in the kernel
(I tried different APM configurations), the machine hangs during the boot
process. Depending of the kernel and APM compilation parameters, I either
get a full screen of hexadecimal characters between <> (if I remember well)
or it simply freezes after issuing:
apm: Bios version 1.2 Flags 0x0b (Driver version 1.9)
To be able to boot with a APM enabled kernel, I have to issue APM=off
at boot time or to disable APM in BIOS setup.
I know I am not the only one to have this problem. After looking for
informations on this problem, I read other people reporting similar problem
on different machines, some of them shipped with LINUX installed (They disabled
APM in BIOS setup!!!).
It seems to me to be clearly related to communication problems between
linux APM function and BIOS of the machine. But the question is can we
find same workaround?
PS: I don't know if it may help, but, if I enable APM in BIOS setup and
boot linux with APM=off, the machine is able to suspend in console mode (
not under X)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions to solve this problem.
