Network card working now (with pcmcia from rh6.1,
the problem I think was irq conflict).

Random keyboard localup at boot fixed by disabling gpm.

Two problems left.

1. Occasionally at boot I get continous chars written to screen
just after the freeing up of unused kernel memory. Touching
the keyboard seems to cure it.

2. The 5 second regular write to disk. Tried everything. When X isn't
running then it does it only while typing (leave keys alone
and it stops). When X is running it does it all the time whether
or not there is keyboard input. Tried everything but no success.
Nothing being added to any files in /var/log.
Tried disabling daemons one by one with linuxconf
(no effect).
Tried channging the update/flush interval to 300 secs.

If I can fix this I might be in business.

However, see also my other post about what is best machine
for out-of-the-box working.
