-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Voici mon outline (comment dire "outline" en franais?) pour ma demo du CVS. Les commentaires sont bienvenues, mais pas exiges. :-) Comment vont vos outlines? - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ * title: using CVS (Concurrent Version System) for project collaboration * goal: show how more than one person can edit a project (example: a website) simultaneously * basic problem: editing collisions 1. Anne wants to make a corrections in a document blah.html 2. She copies the document, makes the changes, goes to lunch, and comes back late. 3. While Anne is gone, Barbara sees the old document on the site, decides to make changes. 4. She copies the document, makes the changes, uploads the new document. 5. Anne arrives back from lunch, finishes her changes, uploads HER VERSION of the document and wipes out Barbara's changes. 6. Barbara gets mad at Anne and doesn't invite her to the cocktail party. * possible solutions: ** improve communications between Anne and Barbara always a good idea, but people forget to communicate ** make a policy: only one editor at a time per document can be done arranged with email or telephone, but gets tedious and one can forget ** use CVS easy to be current of the latest version automatic notification of changes different versions can be merged mistakes can be back-tracked because CVS doesn't forget anything * how it works: ** top of panel showing: central repository multiple editor's versions of the project project home (auto-updating) ** show three steps: checkout (or update with a possible merge of changes) edit of project file(s) commit (with a possible merges) * things to demonstrate: ** import ** checkout ** update ** add ** commit ** export settings ** automatic emailing of changes ** watch? ** automatic update of website ** log ** diffs ** roll-back ** show webcvs?? ** show webDAV?? * check wimpy.arsdigita.com for CVS slides and other info * ideal demo 10 minutes, 2 people (optional) * conclusion: too much stuff for 10 minutes - need to cut down!!! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Erik Rossen ^ [EMAIL PROTECTED] /e\ http://www.multimania.com/rossen --- GPG key ID: 2935D0B9 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.75 iD8DBQE5vLUEY88aPik10LkRAu8RAJ9qjXLDFd6iifFPICTuSh6NgZx+pwCgqUis u0+iyiPijiCflgyhXpetGck= =K4Ap -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
