INTRODUCTION
------------
Although VMware received the award of the best software in year 2000 from
PC-Magazine, many developers are unaware of the existence of this tool that
allows you to run multiple operating systems (windowsNT, windows2000 and
Linux) on one physical machine. But those who got the chance to see it once
love it and use it every day. In particular for more and more Java
developers VMware belongs to the category of basic software like the Java 2
platform and the operating system itself because development, testing and
deployment is much easier than before.

Edouard Bugnion, VMware, grew up in Neuchatel and Geneva before moving to
Zurich, where he got his "Dipl Inf.-Ing." degree from ETH and interned at
Asea Brown Boveri's Research Center. Ed then started in 1994 the Stanford
PhD program in Computer Science under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mendel
Rosenblum in the FLASH operating system group. At Stanford, Ed Bugnion
worked on the SimOS machine simulator and the Disco virtual machine
monitors. Ed has not finished his PhD yet, but rather co-founded VMware in
January '98, along with Prof Rosenblum and others.

John Brush, Ideartis, been developer for over 9 years, mostly programming
in C/C++ and Java. He has several years of experience in ecommerce
infrastructure projects, in particular with EJB and Internet Security. He
discovered VMware two years ago and since then has never stopped using it
for himself and the customer projects. He is now technical consultant and
software engineer with Ideartis.
