Presentation of the Wilhelm Tux / Guillaume Tux Campaign.

Abstract:

Willhelmtux/Guillaumetux (Official German name: Wilhelmtux - Kampagne
fr Freie Software) is a non-profit association that was founded in
order to promote the use of Free Software in Switzerland.

The presentation will focus on the ideas that led to the creation of
Wilhemtux. To summarize, these are:

   - Many people contribute to Open Source Software. Free Software
(free as in freedom, not as in absence of cost) can therefore
"ripen" much faster, leading to more stable operation.
     Innovation thorugh continual improvement.

   - Free Software can build trust, and foster competition. It is
no longer the products that are competing, but the services
sourrounding them. For this reason, the government should
contemplate the use of Free Software (esp. projects paid for
by the population, through the Swiss National Funds System.)

   - Open Standards warrant for future development. A Webpage
complying to HTML 1.0 will still be usable in 10 years time.
Will the text that you wrote this morning with your office
     suite?

It will also present some of the ongoing projects at Wilhemtux, give
an outlook over the plans for the short-term future as well as point
out possible ways for a co-operation with like-minded organisations.
