It works just fine.  For some time I owned a laptop with it.  The only
issue was that laptop wouldn't suspend with the module loaded and, back
then, there was a suspicious sequence of bits in the portion of the
driver that enabled WPA, but it was since determined to be pure data
rather than a blob, so rtl8187 chips are compatible with freedom.
