Only got up to 16GB (on an old eight x86 CPU box). Since your above
4GB, you've proven that PAE does work. So adding RAM shouldn't be a
problem. But I found for some [32 bit] java stuff, you may actually
need to increase [disk] swap size. And on some Java configurations
(Solaris & PowerMACs), you couldn't run Java for more than a day before
running out of memory (i.e. either stop java or reboot the machine once
a day).

I'd recommend running 64 bit Linux, then if you really need 32 bit,

instantiations for your 'old' software.
