Earlier today I wrote the following regarding a Samba setup:

I finally gave up on Samba 3.5 and installed Samba 2.2.12 and this gave me
a functioning system.  Not much user security, but then the previous setup
didn't have any so I'm not going backwards - just not a lot forward.

I suspect that my problem with the new version had to do with what Linux
user owned the actual files and what the effective user was of a client.
I'll set up an experimental installation on one of my home systems and
figure it out.

But not tonight ...  :)
